Our History
The establishment of Chambers of Commerce in Western countries dates back to 1700. Akhism, guild and tradesmen organizations take place in the Turks as the equivalent of this kind of organization initiated by the West at these dates.
In our country, this kind of organization dates back to 1876. Later, with a decree dated 13 / Cemaziyelahir / 1923, it was started to establish the councils called Meclis-i Ticaret and Ziraat in cities and towns. According to the decision taken by the Ministry of Commerce (Ministry), the establishment of one Chamber of Commerce in the provinces of Thessaloniki, İzmir, Syria, Aleppo, Baghdad, and in the provinces of Trabzon, Adana, Ankara, Edirne, Hadarendigar and Erzurum, respectively.
When the Trade Association was useful, the president and members were elected to establish a Chamber of Commerce in Edirne in 1301/1885 and submitted to the approval of the Ministry of Commerce.
It is understood that the Edirne Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which was shown in the Edirne yearbooks (dated H. 1301 and 1939), was established under these laws. The names of the members of Edirne Chamber and the members of the Commercial Court are included in the 1319/1901 yearbook. We could not find any explanation in this 22 years from this date until the Republic. A fact given by the Chamber during these years is the reason why we did not come across an article about this organization due to the Balkan War, Çanakkale and the First World War, the ruins and the migrations.
On September 27, 1341 (1925), the Regulation on the Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the establishment of Chambers of Commerce were initiated with the proposal of the law requiring the members of commerce to become official and compulsory members. Thus, with the proposal of this law, the Chambers of Commerce, which have not been organized for 40 years, have been accepted as a professional organization and obliged the members of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry to be members of the Chambers. The establishment of Edirne Chamber of Commerce and Industry was realized by a law and started its duty in the city. Our Chamber, which was established as the second in our country after Istanbul, will continue its desire to do so without interruption until today with its technological and contemporary breakthroughs that are adapting to our merchants and industrialists in recent years. Our Chamber has 20 professional committees.
