Edirne Local Cheese Was Discussed

Our Chamber's Chairman of the Board of Directors, Sezai Irmak, participated as a speaker in the panel titled "Edirne Cheese Panel: Strategic Steps from Sustainable Production to Marketing" organized by the Food Engineering Department of Trakya University's Faculty of Engineering.

Speaking at the panel where leading figures of the sector and valuable academics shared their knowledge and experiences, our Chairman of the Board of Directors shared the geographical indication registration process of Edirne Local Cheese with the public.


He stated that the first steps of the registration process were taken 20 years ago and that this initiative has been revised and is operating with more accurate and guaranteed steps, and that as the Edirne Chamber of Commerce and Industry, they focus on supporting our cheese producing companies with R&D studies and raising awareness.


He conveyed to the participants that as Edirne Chamber of Commerce and Industry, we have completed our work on the national platform for our local cheese and that the necessary initiatives will be taken for the European Union geographical indication registration and expressed that the deep-rooted history of Edirne cheese should be appreciated and that we should be the defenders and supporters of this cultural value as the entire people of Edirne.


While concluding his speech, he expressed his gratitude to Trakya University Faculty of Engineering, which organized such a panel and enabled us to raise public awareness in these days when the geographical indication registration studies of Edirne cheese are ongoing.
